*meanwhile Jei's swiped with his wand at the base of the Whomping Willow, which freezes in place, refraining from striking at him as he moves in close to its trunk; turning, then, he almost seems to look right at Paul and Yamino across the distance between them*

*and if they have sharp eyes, they may be able to see him trembling, his teeth tightly gritted and muscles tightened against some inner turmoil as he pauses, one hand on the frozen tree*

*slight wince* Sorry, that as uncalled for... *glances back toward where Jei went, a bit nervous*
No, it's... H--... *clearly rethinks whatever he'd been about to say, looking a bit pained at having to avoid saying whatever it had been*

No, he isn't normally like this... But I can take care of him. Make sure he doesn't get hurt or into trouble... *as an after though, with an amused slight grin he adds* But you should likely get back to you're dorm before you're late...

*He won't force Yamino to go back, though he's not entirely comfortable just letting the kid follow him, and more importantly Jei to where the kid was going and why, after a moment he starts walking again anyway*

*he glances back toward Jei and sighs, wishing there was something he could do to comfort the kid, but no part of the process seemed 'pleasant', so there was little he could do, and at the moment he didn't want to raise his voice enough that Jei could hear him, as he didn't want to accidentally drag someone elses attention to them... however he does mentally replay whatever it was Jei had done to stop the tree in his mind, remembering it for later as he made a gesture for the kid to keep going if he needed to, flashing what he hoped was a comforting slight smile*

*So Paul knew, and said he could deal with it. Yamino guessed he trusted Paul enough with that... besides Vivi and the others really would worry if 'punctual Yamino' came in late. It's not as if it HADN'T become obvious there was nothing he could do anyway*

Just hurry professor, I don't think there's much time left.
*Though Yamino didn't follow any further, he watched the professor for a short while after before turning back towards the school... working it back and forth in his mind whether or not Paul might have needed to get to that place as much as Jei... finally deciding he simply couldn't tell.*

*it's true, there isn't: Jei has just slipped down the hole at the base of the Willow's trunk just as a silvery glow lines the tips of the mountains to the east*


*and it isn't many minutes later -- maybe five, maybe ten -- when something that might have been a cry floats back from the direction of the tree -- a cry or perhaps an eerie wail.... or maybe just a lonely, random thestrel somewhere in the forest beyond.....*

*Without waiting much longer than a moment he darts off again after Jei, a bit more quickly this time, as he ran he spared the thought to wonder what Yamino thought of all this, but as he wanted to catch up to Jei, and had to focus on avoiding the (Now annoyed) willow tree, avoiding one of the willow branches a bit too neatly before tapping that same spot Jei had, if he'd felt like taking the time he would have been shocked and highly interested in repeating the same effect Jei had, but as it was he only had the thought before following Jei, growling quietly in annoyance when his jacket gets snagged on something and he has to pull it free while following the kid down the tunnel... Though it does a bit remind him of being back home... Which makes him grin slightly*

Having seen the two disappear, Yamino sighed and headed back. He'd talk with Vivi about the two of them visiting Jei tomorrow. -.-

And he'd definitely have to work up the nerve to have his little talk with Paul sometime too...
