At least it's warmer out this time of year....

History of Magic is a foolish series of never-ending tragedies. It feels foolish to say that a lesson can be learned from it; those who do are always destroyed by those those who refuse to learn....

'That place' refers to the Shrieking Shack, where Jei spends his full moons; he's afraid there might be a weak place in the wards that would allow him to escape. What goes on during those times is pretty obscure to him afterwards, except that it hurts. (For those who haven't met him yet: he's a werewolf, though very few people besides the teachers are aware of that.)]]
